Learning objectives

In this lesson, students will learn about the key events, figures, and motivations that led to the First Crusade, including the roles of Pope Urban II, Emperor Alexios I, and the impact of the Battle of Manzikert. They will also explore the broader historical significance of the crusade and its lasting effects on medieval Europe and the Middle East. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading, source analysis, research, and watching options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
