Learning objectives

In this lesson, students will explore the complex series of events that led to America's involvement in the First World War, from the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand to the Zimmermann Telegram. They will also examine the internal debates within the United States, including public opinion and political actions, that shaped the country's eventual decision to join the Allies in 1917. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading, research, and watching options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
