Learning objectives

In this lesson, students will learn about the rise and fall of the Directory during the French Revolution, exploring its efforts to stabilize France after the Reign of Terror and the challenges it faced from political factions and military influence. They will examine key events, such as the Vendémiaire Uprising and the Coup of 18 Brumaire, to understand how internal and external pressures led to the Directory's eventual collapse and the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading and research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
