Learning objectives

In this lesson, students will examine the history and consequences of the Stolen Generations policy in Australia, tracing the removal of First Nations children from their families between 1869 and 1970. They will explore the motivations behind assimilation policy, the legislative framework that enabled child removal, and the long-term impacts on Indigenous Australians documented in the 1997 Bringing Them Home report. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading, research, and watching options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
