In this lesson, students will examine how legal, social, and religious structures in medieval Europe constrained or opened up opportunities for women depending on their class and marital status. They will also explore the lives of individual women who, through exceptional circumstances or personal determination, exercised genuine influence in the areas of politics, religion, and intellectual life. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading and research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
