Learning objectives

In this lesson, students will learn about the rise and fall of New Spain, focusing on the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire, the establishment and governance of the Viceroyalty, and the factors leading to its decline and eventual independence as Mexico. They will explore the social, economic, and cultural impacts of Spanish colonization on indigenous populations and the lasting legacy of this period in history. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading and research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
