In this lesson, students will examine the four main causes of the First World War through the MAIN acronym: Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism, and Nationalism. They will also explore how these causes came together in the real world through the Moroccan and Bosnian Crises, gaining a clearer understanding of why a single act of aggression had the potential to draw most of Europe into war by 1914. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading and research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
