Learning objectives

In this lesson, students will gain an understanding of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand by Gavrilo Princip and the July Crisis that followed from that event. They will develop an awareness of the short-term triggers of World War I, such as the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary, the “July Crisis” between Austria-Hungary and Serbia, and the invasion of Belgium by Germany. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading, research, and video watching options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
