WWII POWs in Europe Lesson

Learning objectives

In this lesson, students will delve into experiences of prisoners of war (POWs) during World War II, exploring how their treatment varied depending on the capturing country, their rank, and the evolving circumstances of the war. The lesson will also examine the role of international laws like the Geneva Convention, humanitarian organizations like the Red Cross, and the ethical dilemmas and challenges that arose in the context of POW camps. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading and research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
