In this lesson, students will examine how the Allies took the upper hand in the Pacific theatre of World War Two, tracing the progression of key military campaigns from the early turning points in 1942 through to Japan's formal surrender in September 1945. They will also explore the range of military strategies the Allies used, covering areas such as island-hopping and the atomic bombings, and consider how each of these contributed to forcing Japan's surrender. Students will have the opportunity to achieve this through choosing their own method of learning, from reading and research options, as well as the chance to engage in extension activities. This lesson includes a self-marking quiz for students to demonstrate their learning.
